If you have a knack for spinning the decks, local community radio station Bay FM may just hold your ticket to fame and fortune.

The Port Elizabeth-based station will launch their search for a club DJ with auditions starting on Friday (March 20).

The search will culminate in a live showdown at the 19th annual MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival at Hobie Beach over Easter weekend.

According to station manager Jacques Arendt anyone over the age of 18 may enter. “We want to create a unique platform for this entertainment genre on Bay FM’s Night School, which is hosted by Greg ‘O’ Gee.”

“We will be looking for fresh, young talent with the emphasis on technical skills and the ability to really bring the house down,” says ‘O’ Gee.

Arendt says the winner will qualify for a resident DJ slot on Bay FM’s Night School, a three-month DJ slot at a well-known local club, state of the art equipment and a host of other prizes.

According to him, the public can tune in to Bay FM between 6pm and 9pm from Tuesday to Friday evenings when they will be able to vote for their favourite DJ via SMS.

Programme consultant for the MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival, David Limbert, says the grand finale of the competition will take place on stage two from 2.30pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 12.

He says both stages will be jam-packed with entertainment throughout the festival. There will also be an array of watersport and beach events as well as unique food and craft stalls.

Entry forms for the club DJ search are available on www.bayfm.co.za and www.splashfestival.com. The closing date for entries is Friday, March 27.
