Husband and wife Marthinus and Marie Visser received special commendations for the commitment they have shown to their work at Le Grand Chasseur during the company’s year-end function in December.
Based near Robertson in the Western Cape, the wine farm has been part of Habata Agri’s operations since it was bought in September 2015.
Since then an annual function has been held to recognise those who have contributed to the success of the operation.
The Vissers have been part of the company since moving from a nearby farm a few years ago.
Financial manager Christie Rabie praised the couple for their commitment to their jobs.
“Their work ethic, trustworthiness and attitude have been outstanding and they rarely miss a day of work,” she said.
“This all contributed to them being awarded their respective prizes.”
She added that the function was introduced to give recognition to workers on the farm who always did their best and “went the extra mile”.
“We are working in a region where very little has been done in terms of development of the workers and it’s one of our objectives to help to train and uplift those people in our employ.
“The Vissers received shopping vouchers and they were extremely appreciative as it enabled them to get that little something extra for themselves at the time.”
Marthinus, aged 56, works in irrigation maintenance and the fertilizer operations while Marie, 49, is employed as a general worker.
“What made the occasion even more special,” said Rabie, “is that they have two sons, Elvin and Marthinus Jnr [Marco], who are also employed on the farm. So it is truly a ‘family affair’.”
Having grown up in McGregor, the Vissers were working on the farm Buffelskloof when they came to visit friends at Le Grand Chasseur.
“Eventually they applied for work with us and got the jobs. Marthinus moved into a house and a week later Marie joined him.”
Rabie said they had proved valuable assets to the operations at Le Grand Chasseur, having been involved in the agricultural sector from a young age.
