With event sponsors creating hassle-free ways of dealing with logistics for the 29th edition of The Herald VW Cycle tour, out-of-town riders will have nothing to worry about other than making it to the finish line.
Booking accommodation and car hire for the weekend of the event is now just a few clicks away and will not only save visitors time and effort, but also money.
According to road race director Julie Briggs, South Africa’s second oldest national classic is attracting an ever-increasing number of visiting riders and organisers are always looking for ways to better cater to their needs.
Briggs said a wide range of accommodation and car hire packages have once again been made available in conjunction with event partners and these are listed on the official race website.
The City Lodge Hotel Group, she said, would offer special rates and packages to riders across its establishments for the duration of the weekend.
These include the one-star Road Lodge, two-star Town Lodge and three-star City Lodge, which are all in close proximity to the action. They will again also host VIP guests, race officials and pro teams.
General manager Glenn Pappin said the group would sponsor 15 rooms, including bed and breakfast, worth about R15 000.
In addition, they have made three “splash and dash” rooms available for professional teams to freshen up prior to the prize giving on the Sunday.
“We are very happy to be extending our relationship with this great event to a fourth year. It is a fixture on Port Elizabeth’s annual sporting calendar.”
Pappin, who will take part in the 30km Powerade Leisure Challenge at Addo, encouraged riders to bring family and friends along to enjoy everything that PE offered beyond the cycle tour.
“Our hotel is right on the beachfront and almost on the doorstep of The Boardwalk (Casino and Entertainment Complex), so there is plenty for them to do while they are here.”
Rennies Travel will once again coordinate cycle tour-specific travel packages. These include special rates on accommodation and car hire where possible.
In addition, The Boardwalk Hotel will be offering specials to participants who are looking for five-star accommodation close to the action.
Hobie Beach will be the start/finish venue for the kiddies’ road events on Saturday, February 1, as well as the feature races on the Sunday.
Registration will be on the Friday, with late registration for the road events continuing on the Saturday.
