Pier 14 in Port Elizabeth is on the lookout for young ambassadors to become the face of the shopping centre for the next 12 months.

Mr & Miss Pier 14, for which entries close on Friday, is open to youngsters between the ages of seven and 21, and 10 finalists will be chosen in each of the four age categories.

Finalists will be groomed and then take part in the annual fashion show, which doubles as the gala evening for the pageant, on November 3.

According to Sophia Steyn, the spokesperson for centre management, there would be loads of prizes on offer from participating stores, with the senior winners getting the chance to act as centre representatives.

“With this in mind, we’ve introduced a category for 19 to 21-year-olds.”

She said they were looking for persons with a fun outlook on life and a “vibey” personality – qualities that personify the traits of their clientele.

“The judging panel will be looking for people with confidence and personality – so just be yourself!”

Steyn said winners’ duties would include handing out prizes at live draws, like this year’s “Win a Kitchen” and “Find your Furniture” promotions, as well as getting involved with Pier 14’s charitable beneficiaries like Hannah’s Arms and Thamsanqa.

She said entrants could obtain entry forms from any of Pier 14’s clothing tenants. “They will need to bring their form plus a full-length photo and R50 entry fee to the centre management offices on the third floor by Friday.”

Participants younger than 18 would need signed consent from a parent or guardian, said Steyn.

Finalists would be contacted telephonically by Wednesday, October 17, at the latest, she said. “They must make themselves available for fittings and rehearsals.”

Steyn said the show itself would take place from 10am to 2pm outside the Fashion King store.

“This is our biggest promotion for the year and audiences will get a chance to see the very latest summer fashions available in our stores.

“We’ll start the show with some beautiful evening dresses and suits. There’ll be dancers and more surprises happening on the day, so you don’t want to miss out!”

The winners of the “Cash in on Fashion” consumer promotion, which coincides with the competition, will be drawn at the show.
