The freshly revamped Pier 14 Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth has launched a drive to attract new customers with an attention-grabbing ‘Win a Car’ competition.

The promotion started on October 1 and the centre, situated in North End, will be giving away a Nissan NP200 bakkie to the value of R107 000 from Nissan Eastern Cape. One fortunate shopper will receive an early Christmas box when the winner is drawn on December 18.

“By giving away this vehicle, we are ploughing something back into the local community. The competition is part of our ‘drive’ to offer a bigger and better shopping experience,” said Sophia Steyn from centre management.

“We are currently putting the finishing touches on our new look – in time for the festive season,” said Steyn. “We invite shoppers to come down to Pier 14 and see what all the excitement is about.”

Customers need to spend R100 or more at any Pier 14 store in order to enter the competition. Entrants must attach the original till slips to their entry forms and place them in the box on the first floor in front of the Mr Price store, where the vehicle is on display.

In six fortnightly draws – from October 8 to December 17 – 24 contestants will be chosen. This number will be whittled down to six finalists in a final lucky draw and they will then compete against each other for the grand prize.

Despite the recession and recent public sector and motor industry strikes, which negatively affected the retail sector, Steyn believes that Pier 14’s investment in improvements to the centre has been worth it.

“We have installed good security systems, painted the building and created eye-catching new entrances on Govan Mbeki Avenue and Cawood Street. Many of our stores have also upgraded in the spirit of renewal,” said Steyn.

Pier 14’s tenants include a mix of national chain stores and smaller novelty shops and Steyn is expecting a bumper festive season. “We believe the ‘Win a Car’ competition will assist in driving foot traffic into the centre.”
