The traffic department has advised that a section of Marine Drive will be closed ahead of the MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival’s evening programme on Saturday.
Festival director Glenn van Eck says the organisers have been informed that, from the city’s side, the incoming lane between La Roche Drive and Second Avenue, Summerstrand, will be cordoned off from 4pm until midnight.
He says the arrangement has been put in place to control the flow of traffic during the festival’s peak period, which includes the traditional fireworks display at 8pm.
Van Eck says motorists approaching from town can gain access to the venue at Hobie Beach by turning right into La Roche Drive, left into Strandfontein Road and left again into Second Avenue.
He says the lane feeding traffic back to town will operate as usual and traffic officers will be on duty to assist and guide the public.
The festival gets underway at 10am tomorrow (Friday) with the Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic and concludes on Easter Monday with the Mango Groove concert at 2pm.
