Coimbra Cycle House owner and multiple Transbaviaans winner Vickus Boshoff knows a thing or two about going the extra mile.

The George resident has completed the gruelling 24-hour marathon eight times, won it twice overall with team-mate Marcel Deacon and notched up a couple of victories in the mixed category.

A keen cyclist since 1990, he has also done 20 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tours, the Giro del Capo and three Ironman triathlons.

So when Boshoff serves his customers at his bike shop in York Street, George, it comes with passion and experience.

“I enjoy what I do and am very proud of my staff and our shop,” he says.

“We do business all over the country and always try to give the best service possible.”

Boshoff says he was talked into starting his Western Cape store by one of his friends, after complaining about being unhappy in his job. He decided to follow his dream and Coimbra Cycle House opened its doors in August 2000.

“I started off in a very small shop with not much stock. In the dozen years that we’ve been open, I have expanded the store three times.”

Now boasting a total area of 300 square metres, including an outside wash area, Coimbra carries a variety of top bicycle brands such as Scott, Specialized, Merida, Cannondale and Felt, as well as a full range of accessories.

“Because of the area that we live in, our main focus is obviously mountain biking but we also sell road bikes.”

Boshoff says the store has well-trained in-house mechanics and offers full bike set-ups.

As added value to loyal customers, he also organises 5am group rides on and off-road throughout the week.

“We have grown by taking baby steps but we have moved quite a distance,” says Boshoff.

Coimbra Cycle House is open weekdays from 8.30am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 1pm.
