Eastern Cape companies are coming out in full force to support the Nashua Largest Ever Bikini Photo Shoot in Port Elizabeth, which is one of the many high-profile events associated with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Two of these companies, Rest Assured Beds and the City Lodge group, have proved they are not asleep on the job when it comes to raising funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa).

“The photo shoot is a great awareness campaign for cancer,” said former national cricketer and cancer-survivor Dave Callaghan, who is also divisional manager for Rest Assured East Cape. “The initiative is for a wonderful cause and therefore we felt it necessary to get involved as a sponsor.”

“I personally believe the best cure for most cancers is early detection – the more people we can make aware of the disease, the better the chances of survival.”

It was his own well-documented battle with testicular cancer that prompted Callaghan to get his company involved.

“I was very fortunate to have detected my cancer early and started treatment immediately, before it spread. Because my cancer was localised, the treatment was very successful.

“There were plenty of difficult times during my treatment though, especially on the mental side.”

Rest Assured has donated two king-size beds valued at R12 000 each, which will be auctioned off.

The Guinness World Record attempt, to be held on October 23 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, aims to better the current record of 1 923 participants.

Rest Assured has also brought one of its many hospitality industry clients, the City Lodge hotel group, on board.

“If we can encourage other companies in our network to contribute to this wonderful event and cause, we will do so,” said Callaghan.
