Fifty lucky football fans will get a last-minute chance to watch the Host City match between England and Slovenia live at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
One of the official FIFA World Cup™ sponsors, Coca-Cola, will be giving the tickets away in a fun competition that forms part of their special celebratory promotion at the St George’s Park-based Fan Fest on Monday and Tuesday.
Ryan Hendry, representing the sponsor, said fans would have to keep a close eye on the crowd in order to qualify for entry into the competition.
“Local radio celebrities will mingle with fans on both afternoons and present those that recognise them with an entry form. From these entrants, several groups of finalists will be selected.”
Hendry said the groups would be called onto stage five minutes prior to the kick-off of the day’s final matches (Spain versus Honduras on Monday and Greece against Argentina on Tuesday) and be asked to perform a victory celebration.
“The crowd will select the best celebrations and the members of the winning groups will receive their tickets on the spot.”
Hendry said the promotion gave football fans that might otherwise not have had an opportunity to attend the match, a chance to do so. “What’s more, they get to go in the company of other fans.”
The promotion was part of their marketing campaign for the World Cup, said Hendry. “Since it’s a celebration, we wanted to do a giveaway.”
The participating groups’ onstage antics will be recorded and forwarded to head office for entry into the national competition, in which an overseas trip for two is up for grabs.
In the first phase of the promotion on Sunday, 50 lucky Fan Fest visitors received tickets to Monday’s Host City fixture between Chile and Switzerland.
Fans can also look forward to a stunning line-up of international entertainment on Monday and Tuesday.
Beat boxer George Avakian, from SA’s Got Talent fame, will wow the crowd on Monday with Jozi and international big beat superstar Fatboy Slim taking to the stage on Tuesday.
Entrance to the Fan Fest, which is open from 11am to midnight on match days, is free. Visit www.facebook.com/NMB2010 for regular updates.
