The cream of South Africa’s comedy crop – including rising star Loyiso Gola and the metro’s much-loved “cousin” Barry Hilton – will treat audiences to side-splitting jokes during a live performance at this Easter’s MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth.
A first for the event, the Comedy Festival also features local acts Michael “the fly” Arthur and comedian Tall Mo.
“We wanted to create more diversity within the entertainment provided at Splash,” says Comedy Festival organiser David Limbert. “We hope the festival will give visitors something new, as well as attract those who haven’t attended until now.”
The Comedy Festival gives locals and tourists the chance to support metro comedians, as well as three of the biggest names in local comedy – at no charge.
Popular funny man Loyiso Gola is well-known for his roles in television comedy and boasts a unique and frank sense of humour. Winner of a South African Comedy Award, he was also nominated for Comedian of the Year at the Stars of Mzansi Awards in 2008.
Port Elizabeth’s much-loved star, Barry Hilton, is considered one of the country’s top comedians.
The Comedy Festival runs from 6.30pm to 9pm on Sunday, April 4, on the MTN Stage.
The Splash Festival, which takes place from April 2 to 5, features 72 hours of live entertainment, beach sports, five international watersports events, kids’ activities, more than 180 stalls and a lifestyle marquee.
