A new spin on traditional web-based marketing aims to put Nelson Mandela Bay companies in touch with thousands of potential customers and make life easier for consumers searching for virtually any type of goods or services.

Recently-launched www.bizz.co.za is an online listing solution offering affordable website promotion by generating more traffic for local web pages and helping users to find relevant pages for the region in which they live or do business.

Port Elizabeth entrepreneurs Natalie Britz and Llewelyn Tait will also plough up to R60 000 per month back into the local economy through advertising and sports sponsorship, guaranteeing ongoing exposure for companies that join their network.

“Businesses spend a lot of money developing their website as an amazing marketing tool, but then neglect it and don’t market it well enough,” says Britz.

“The problem in the web industry is that with the large number of websites on the internet, everyone is fighting to be seen. Sites are created, only to be hidden somewhere on the World Wide Web.”

Britz says if a search engine is used, the pure magnitude of results often clouds the issue and the end-user struggles to find relevant information for a specific area.

With a quarter of the population using the internet, Bizz – short for Bizz Web Marketing – aims to assist companies with exploiting this marketing potential and generate revenue as a result, according to Tait.

“Bizz will charge members R180 per month to be listed on the site, which is less than the price of a 500ml Coke per day.”

Initially, says Tait, companies must operate in Nelson Mandela Bay and have a “vested interest” in PE and surrounds.

“There are other business directories readily available on the web to register with, but what makes us unique is what members actually get for their investment,” says Tait.

“For your monthly fee, we will spend up to R60 000 per month marketing bizz.co.za – therefore indirectly your site – in the printed, online and broadcast media.”

Tait says they will also invest in billboard advertising, event sponsorships, a monthly website competition and e-newsletter promotions.

“So, unlike some other business listings, Bizz invests heavily in the promotion of the directory and its members in the ‘normal’ media.”

Britz says benefits of membership include locally-focused exposure, increased hits for your website, listing in up to three categories, a local search engine guaranteeing accessible return results and an exclusive membership network.

“In addition, your site will be reviewed annually by a search engine optimisation (SEO) specialist.”

The site is uncluttered, easy to use and does not contain too much information, meaning potential customers will find it easy to navigate and extract relevant information.

Britz says they plan on expanding the concept throughout the Eastern Cape and then nationally.
