A young Port Elizabeth property agent has received national recognition for his contribution to the industry in terms of sales, exceptional service, leadership and development.

Jaco Rademeyer of Jaco Rademeyer Estates was one of 16 agents honoured at this year’s Nedbank Property Professional awards evening held in Cape Town recently. The 25-year-old property agent was the only agent nominated from the Eastern Cape.

What makes his nomination even more remarkable, is that he was the only agent representing his own agency. The other top agents were all affiliated to well-known franchises such as Pam Golding and Chas Everitt.

The Nedbank Property Professional awards event is considered to be the highlight on the South African property calendar and is even referred to as the “Oscars” of the country’s real estate industry.

The criteria for agents to be nominated for this prestigious award include annual sales of R10 million or 40 property units for individuals and partnerships. They also have to be registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board and comply with the body’s code of conduct.

The national finalists were interviewed by a panel of judges on issues such as service ethics, professionalism, marketing/innovation, commitment to improve the industry and community involvement.

The judges included the chief executive officer of the Estate Agency Affairs Board, Mrs Nomonde Matpetla, and the managing director of Nedbank Home Loans, Ms June Tudhope.

“Being nominated was a huge honour and an achievement, especially being from one of the smaller cities,” says Rademeyer. “As the average price class is lower, we have to work that much harder and sell more properties to be recognised with the big names in realty.

“It’s also a feather in the cap of the Eastern Cape property industry to have a representative at this award. It just goes to show that our property market is dynamic and that there is strong buying power in the region.”

Rademeyer is no stranger to awards, having been honoured by the Institute of Estate Agents for the past two years. Last year he was named Agent of the Year in the Eastern Cape for the most units sold and the most commission earned.

His achievements are continuing this year. In May, he achieved sales of R23 million in one week.

Rademeyer attributes his success to hard work, perseverance and caring about his business and the people around it.
