One lucky lady will leave this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge in style when she drives away from the Port Elizabeth beachfront in a brand-new Hyundai i10 Glide on Saturday, May 9.

SPAR Eastern Cape will be giving away this limited edition hatchback as the main prize in the 22nd edition of the province’s biggest road race, which starts and finishes at Pollok Beach.

According to SPAR Eastern Cape marketing manager Abri Swart, more than 14 000 participants are once again expected to turn out for the annual calendar highlight.

“After more than two decades in PE, the event just continues to grow and we are pleased to be able to surprise our loyal supporters with something new and exciting this year.”

Swart said the winner of the racy red vehicle, which sports a sunroof and air-conditioning, would be chosen in a lucky draw during the post-race prize-giving.

“As always, the winner has to be present to claim the keys to the car but there will be great entertainment for the whole family and plenty of refreshments on offer to make it all worthwhile.”

He said the competition would be open to all female participants in both the 5km fun run and 10km road race who were over the age of 18 and had a valid driver’s licence.

“If you’re not lucky enough to win the car, there are loads of other prizes and gift vouchers to be given away too.”

For the serious 10km runners who prefer to sweat it out for their rewards, there would be a total competitive prize purse of almost R40 000 across all age categories, said Swart.

“The race is also on among schools and businesses because those with the most entries stand to win great prizes.”

He said no one would walk away empty-handed, as the first 13 000 entrants would receive this year’s limited edition pink T-shirt and goodie bag, with medals going to all finishers.
