Sporting events throw lifeline to hospitality industry

With the dwindling global economy’s nasty tentacles clutching at the local hospitality industry, major sporting events like the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Sevens may very well save the season.

With the lead time on festive season accommodation bookings dropping and the duration of visits to the city shrinking in the face of changing economic times, major sporting events continue to create a demand for beds.

Sponsorship to kick-start EP Rugby turnaround

In a coup for local sport, Eastern Province Rugby and the Port Elizabeth-based Planet FitSmart signed a landmark sponsorship deal valued at over R300 000 today.

Planet FitSmart – a division of Planet Fitness – says the deal is much more than just a mere membership programme for provincial rugby players.

Sporting events to bolster summer season economy

Major sporting events, like the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Sevens, may just prove to be the saving grace of the local hospitality industry, which is also bearing the brunt of the current global economic crisis.

With the lead time on accommodation bookings dwindling every year and the duration of visits to the city shrinking, major sporting events over the festive season will no doubt create a demand for beds.

Naweekvermaak blom behoorlik by lentefees
