Brett Gordon, the Puma mobile unit’s marketing and sales manager, says this shop on wheels’ national launch will take place in Port Elizabeth at the tournament, affording the public an opportunity to buy fashionable sporting at good prices.


SA Vipers set sights on Sevens glory

The SA Vipers are serious about defending their Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Sevens title, which they won under the Emerging Boks name last year.

Team manager Sebastian Prim said they have pinned down the tournament, which starts at Pearson High School tomorrow, as one of their major objectives in the lead-up to next year’s World Cup in Dubai.

Afrikaans music will take centre stage at this weekend’s Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens when seven of the country’s leading acts wil get together for two marathon open-air concerts.

The heartthrobs from the boy band Eden and the king of Afrikaans dance hits, Kurt Darren, promise to once again have audiences on their feet when they perform their newest hits and some old favourites on Friday (December 12) and Saturday (December 13) evening respectively.


SA Vipers starts defence of Sevens crown tomorrow

The SA Vipers will open their campaign for the defence of their title at the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens in Port Elizabeth against Despatch at 12:46 on Saturday.

The Vipers, which include three Boks who played a part in South Africa’s recent Dubai and George IRB victories, are again the odds-on favourites to take home the trophy.


SA Vipers lethal in sevens final

The SA Vipers got the better of a howling south-easter and a motivated Samurai side as they successfully defended their crown at the third annual Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

The Vipers scored four unanswered tries, three of which were converted by Cecil Afrika, and rarely looked in trouble as they notched up 26 points without reply. It also meant that they kept their clean slate intact in their six matches.


Cycle tour set for best field in 24-year history

The 2009 edition of The Herald Volkswagen Cycle Tour could boast one of the best fields of its 24-year history after House of Paint became the third professional team to confirm its participation this week.

MTN Energade and Neotel, who made a clean sweep at last year’s race, are the other pro outfits that will be under starter’s orders in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, February 1.


Defending champion "switched on" for title defence

Local star Anriëtte Schoeman, who made history when she notched up her fourth consecutive win in South Africa’s second biggest race recently, has confirmed that she and her team will be at next year’s The Herald Volkswagen Cycle Tour.

The former South African champion has dominated the event in recent years and will be aiming for her 12th title in 13 years in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, February 1.


Pro peloton set for VW Herald Cycle Tour

Professional cycling teams may just be enticed to return to the Eastern Cape in their droves after the announcement that next year’s VW Herald Cycle Tour will be the opening leg of a new “pro tour”.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Douglas Ryder, team owner of the MTN Energade professional outfit, said his team would be supporting the series, starting with the Eastern Cape’s premier event on February 1.


Fitness group signs another high profile deal

Port Elizabeth-based fitness group Planet FitSmart signed their second high profile sponsorship deal of the month when they committed to a three-year plan with local Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, Bay United, on Friday.

The sponsorship deal, believed to be valued in the region of R500 000, brings the group’s total commitment to top-level sport in the province to over R800 000. They signed EP Rugby to a one-year deal two weeks ago.
