Baaise tuinfees skop môre af

Baaienaars kry van môre af die geleentheid om met van die land se voorste tuinboudeskundiges skouers te skuur, wanneer die Sherwood Garden Centre se jaarlikse lentefees hier afskop.

Behalwe vir ’n replika van Suid-Afrika se bekroonde Chelsea-blommeskou-uitstalling wat groot belangstelling behoort te lok, sal talle sprekers die publiek deurgaans aan hul lippe hê, se Carmel Wolf van die Sherwood Garden Centre.

Tonne naweekpret by lentefees

Die jaarlikse Sherwood Garden Centre-lentefees het gister in die Baai afgeskop en mense moet hul gereed maak vir ’n tuinskouspel en ander bedrywighede sonder gelyke.

Benewens Suid-Afrika se bekroonde Chelsea-blommefees-uitstalling, sal daar ’n wye verskeidenheid stalletjies, uitstallings en ander vermaak wees, sê Carmel Wolf van dié kwekery.

Award-winning Chelsea exhibition highlight of spring festival

Port Elizabethans will have the rare opportunity to view South Africa’s award-winning Chelsea Flower Show exhibition first-hand at the second annual Sherwood Garden Centre Spring Festival that takes place from October 17 to 26.

First National Bank (FNB) and the Sherwood Garden Centre, in association with Die Burger, are bringing this remarkable floral showcase to the shores of Nelson Mandela Bay.

Bekroonde Chelsea-uitstalling is lentefeeshoogtepunt

Baaienaars kry eersdaags die seldsame geleentheid om Suid-Afrika se bekroonde Chelsea-blommeskou-uitstalling by die jaarlikse lentefees van die Sherwood Garden Centre te sien. Dié fees vind van 17 tot 26 Oktober plaas.

Eerste Nasional Bank (ENB) en die Sherwood Garden Centre, in samewerking met Die Burger, sorg dat dié blommeskouspel in Nelson Mandelabaai kom anker gooi.

Hat-trick for Viljoen as Wikner turns back the clock

Former Port Elizabethan and Atlanta Olympian Blayne Wikner, riding for the Velo Cycling Club in Pretoria, turned back the clock to finish an impressive second in Sunday’s Mecer-NMMU Cycle Tour.

Pre-race favourite Conrad Viljoen (Mecer-NMMU) earned a hard-fought solo victory after breaking clear just after the halfway mark. He completed the challenging 100-kilometre race in 2 hours, 36 minutes and 30 seconds to complete his hat-trick in the event.

Viljoen eyes hat-trick in Mecer-NMMU Cycle Tour

Top local cyclist Conrad Viljoen will have his eye on a hat-trick of wins in the main event of the Mecer-NMMU Cycle Tour when he arrives at the start line on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who is fresh from winning the Makro-Fujitsu-Siemens Cycle Tour two weekends ago, said yesterday he was in the best shape of his life and looking forward to the challenge.

Absa-NMMU netball team wins national club title

The Absa-NMMU netball team became the first Eastern Cape side to win the national club championships when they defeated the Gauteng Central champions in a close encounter in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend.

In the final, Nontle Gwavu’s side beat the fancied Bekezela outfit by 43 goals to 37 to take the coveted Loudon O’Reilly Club Championship Shield for the first time. Absa-NMMU secured their place in the final by winning all of their pool games.

Pier 14 upgrade draws major national tenants

In another coup for the Port Elizabeth central business district (CBD), four national heavyweight retailers and financial giant, Old Mutual, will soon start trading from the Pier 14 shopping centre in North End.

The ongoing expansion and upgrade of the centre, believed to be costing owners Cobrole (Pty) Ltd in excess of R40-million, has to date rendered an additional 8 000m² to the original floor space of 26 000m². The final phase is set to add another 6 000m², which will bring the total to 40 000m² on completion.
