Coetzee has 12 years' experience in the printed media, joining Johnnic Communications (now Avusa) during his studies.

At Johnnic he worked as a photojournalist, reporter and sub-editor for publications such as the Algoa Sun, Evening Post, Weekend Post, EP Herald and Sunday Times.

Coetzee then joined Media24, in the Naspers stable, where he held the positions of reporter, sub-editor, news editor and editor of publications such as the PE Express and Die Burger.

Throughout his career he worked as a freelance photographer and copywriter for various public relations companies and publications. He is also an experienced columnist.

Coetzee, who is fluent in Afrikaans and English, holds a National Diploma in Public Relations Management from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
